Your mission
Role overview:
You will work closely with OSC’s senior scientific and management staff, as well as contractors, to produce and deliver high-calibre industry reports and support tender submissions. The role requires the ability to meet tight deadlines, sometimes outside usual working hours.
Your profile
Key Responsibilities:
  • Writing routine MMO/PAM reports;
  • Support the preparation of commercial tenders for new work; and,
  • Research and assimilate information for commercial literature reviews.
 
Essential criteria:
  • UK citizenship or a visa permitting work within the UK;
  • Proven copy-editing experience;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, and writing style – with the ability to learn and apply OSC’s house style;
  • Degree in a relevant marine scientific discipline (e.g., marine biology, oceanography, marine ecology, environmental science, zoology, etc.);
  • Strong team collaboration skills to produce high-quality publications and reports;
  • Ability to collect, assimilate, prepare, and interpret data for industry-standard reports;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Genuine interest in marine monitoring methods, ecology, and physical oceanographic processes;
  • High-level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams);
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively under pressure;
  • Experience maintaining an information library and ensuring knowledge is current and accurate;
  • Prior experience with Endnote or similar referencing software; and,
  • Commercial awareness and genuine interest in OSC’s business and the wider industry.
 
Desirable criteria:
  • A-Level/Higher or equivalent in English;
  • Previous experience as a report writer in the commercial sector;
  • Experience creating publication-quality maps and plots using GIS and/or R (or similar);
  • JNCC-approved MMO certification; and,
  • Prior MMO/PAM work in research or commercial sectors, and interest in fieldwork aboard vessels/rigs.
